A watch that quietly lived in the shadow of the Datejust for years, only to become one of the most sought-after vintage Rolex references among collectors.

When Rolex decided to embrace quartz technology during the Quartz Crisis, they didn’t simply install a battery into a Datejust. Instead, they spent years developing an entirely new movement—the legendary Rolex Calibre 5035. Built and finished to the same exacting standards as their mechanical movements, it remains one of the finest quartz calibres ever produced.

Just look at the design.

The sharp integrated bracelet, beautifully brushed surfaces, polished bevels and unmistakable angular case give the Oysterquartz a personality unlike any other Rolex. It has become a true design icon, often admired for its bold 1970s styling and unique presence on the wrist.

Rolex produced the Oysterquartz for roughly 25 years, with fewer than 25,000 examples made across the entire production run. Compared to the millions of automatic Datejusts produced, it’s easy to understand why these have become increasingly collectible in recent years.

This particular example features one of the most elegant configurations available—a crisp white dial with applied Roman numerals, giving the watch a refined, understated look that works effortlessly in any setting.

Condition

This is an honest, exceptionally well-preserved example.

The photographs in this listing were taken before the watch received a light professional polish and re-brushing, carried out solely to remove a few minor hairline marks and light signs of wear from the previous owner. No heavy refinishing was carried out—just a careful cosmetic refresh to enhance the overall presentation while respecting the watch’s original character.

The watch now presents in exceptional condition, with sharp lines, an excellent finish and outstanding overall appearance, making it ready to be enjoyed or added to a serious collection.

Mechanically, it performs exactly as it should and keeps excellent time.
